First Friday Returns!
May 5 will kick-off the First Friday event series with dancing, history tours and more.
The Downtown Business Council and Council for the Arts present the first of 2017’s First Friday events, A Taste of Downtown, on Friday, May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Chambersburg. Many businesses will be open late with extended hours and special offers. The evening is sponsored by All Occasion Florist and DJ Scott Douglas.
May's First Friday will feature Salsa on the Square, where First Friday visitors can be a part of the entertainment. Working with event co-sponsor and sound specialist Scott Douglas, dance professional José Ricardo will teach participants new dance steps from 6 to 8 p.m. José is originally from Colombia and teaches salsa, merengue and other Latin American rhythms. Join José for an hour of fun learning basic steps for salsa and merengue.
Downtown Chambersburg Inc. and the Franklin County Visitors Bureau will host free Guided Historic Walking Tours at 5:30 and 6 p.m. during the First Friday festivities. Guides Janet Pollard and Patricia Bunn will take you through 24 downtown historical sites in two guided tours. You're guaranteed to learn a lot about the history of Chambersburg! The tours will start at the Chambersburg Heritage Center & Gift Shop, 100 Lincoln Way E. Free and fun for all ages!
You can also make your own artwork during First Friday. The Foundry artist cooperative at 100 S. Main St. will offer a free make-and-take craft for kids during the opening of their Young Artists Exhibit. Chalk art will also be available around the square to let your creativity run wild! #ChambersburgPA
